Upgrading to vSphere 6.5 the VCDX Way at VMworld 2017

Upgrading your vSphere environment can be done with the click of a button, thanks to VMware vSphere Update Manager.  However, just because you can doesn’t mean you should!  Rebecca Fitzhugh and I presented a session entitled Upgrading to vSphere 6.5 the VCDX Way at VMworld 2017.

While performing the upgrade itself is easy, it is important to first take a good look at your environment.  Does it meet your requirements now, or is this a good opportunity to change some things?  What is your driver for upgrading?  What order do I need to upgrade components in?  These are all important questions to ask yourself, and you can find the answers to some of these in our slides from the session below.

Beyond answering these questions, we also wanted to help our audience begin to become comfortable with the design process as a whole.  A VMware vSphere upgrade is a common occurrence for many VMware administrators, and it can be a great opportunity to create design documentation for the first time.  We wanted our attendees to get a glimpse into what they should be thinking about as they begin their journey to becoming an IT architect.

Since many components of performing the upgrade can be as easy as clicking a button, be sure to take a look at some additional information about VMware vSphere Update Manager:
